Crossing Classroom Borders: Implementing COIL for Global Collaboration in ELT
This presentation shares the experience, outcomes, and pedagogical insights of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project jointly developed between the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG). The project connected university-level English language teachers in Guatemala and Spanish learners in the United States in a nine-week virtual exchange focused on intercultural communication and global citizenship in ELT.
Participants will learn how COIL can enrich language learning, increase student motivation, and build intercultural competence—regardless of teaching context or level. The session will also offer practical guidelines for ELT professionals to design and implement COIL-inspired activities in primary, secondary, or higher education classrooms.
