Designing for All: A Hands-On Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in ELT
As teachers we’re always looking for ways to support as many of our learners as possible, but that can come with the heavy cost of more planning and preparation time. What are some alternatives that can help lighten the load a little? This interactive workshop introduces the basics of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), an approach that helps us create more flexible, engaging, and inclusive lessons for all students.
Rather than focusing only on theory, this session is grounded in real classroom practice. Together, we’ll explore simple ways to give learners more than one way to access content, show what they’ve learned, and stay motivated. You’ll work with other participants to analyze sample activities, identify easy UDL tweaks, and adapt familiar tasks for greater inclusion - whether you teach kids, teens, or adults, online or in person.
This workshop is designed for teachers who work in varied contexts, so bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore and try things out. You’ll leave with practical ideas, sample adaptations, and at least one activity or strategy you can use in your next lesson.
Let’s reimagine the classroom so that it focuses on access to learning and thriving through UDL.
